Behind the Brand
Shane has been working with clients since receiving his diploma in fitness and health promotion, and his Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) license from the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP) in 2017. Since then, he has worked with hundreds of clients to progress their strength, endurance, lean body composition, sport-specific skills, and acute/chronic injury rehabilitation. During his initial time in practice, he was employed at the National Capital YMCA-YWCA community center as a fitness professional. At the community center, he had the opportunity to work with individuals from many cultures, ages, ethnicities, ability levels, and diverse backgrounds. While in this position he worked to develop his expertise via the standardized administration of exercise assessment and prescription. Working with clients throughout these years, he began to realize that his knowledge of physical rehabilitation well exceeded my current scope of practice. Having successfully helped clients reduce symptoms and or ameliorate chronic and acute lower back pain, patellar femoral pain syndrome, an extreme form of genu varum, rotator cuff tears, hypertension, obesity, & more extreme clinical cases. It became the circumstance that a larger amount of his clientele were exercising as a form of intervention for musculoskeletal conditions, or of course as pursuit for strength and hypertrophy.
As a fitness professional, Shane had always correlated his immediate success in roster development to accomplishments made in Ottawa’s 2016 natural bodybuilding competition. In which he achieved four podium wins; two for first place, one for second place, and further went on to be titled Ottawa's overall natural bodybuilding champion. His achievements in turn served as a demonstration of the dedication, commitment, and leadership attributes essential to emerging victorious in competition; reflecting the qualities required to make major lifestyle changes. The title “bodybuilding champion”, also served to the public eye as an exemplification of his theoretical and applicational understanding of muscular hypertrophy.
The mission statement behind Fredericks Fitness as a professional service and social platform is to help educate, motivate, and provide a level of accountability for all the channel viewers, clients and athletes. Further aimed to dismantle barriers of access to evidence-based information. With the intended goal of liberation; reshaping of the public standard for literacy in all sectors of health, fitness, and wellness.

Looking Back…
While Personal Training at the YMCA, Shane’s collogues clientele became increasingly cognizant of his focus, attentiveness, and procedural process in the exercise room. One example of that is a client who soon needed to undergo laparoscopic hernia surgery, in which case his surgeon told him his core wasn’t yet strong enough for the procedure. Working with the same trainer for over a year at that time, he was amply discouraged. Despite his investment and commitment to the process laid out by his personal trainer, he was deemed unfit to receive the surgery. After being approached by this client regarding his goals, Shane decided the most pertinent action to take was to inform our fitness manager. In turn, these actions resulted in collaborative-care, & fulfillment of the client's goals. Although initially unfamiliar with the strengthening protocol & strength expectations associated with abdominal surgery, the client's treatment plan did not differ from the standard still offered today. Fredericks Fitness exercise prescription is led by evidence-based, and client-specific exercise guidelines provided and published by the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP).
